Dear Parents and Carers,
It is just wonderful to see all our families around the school and the smiles on the faces of the children as they arrive at school each day! How quickly they have all settled into their learning and school routines. Our theme for 2024, is ‘Live, Love, Learn’, which is our school mission. We live this every day through our respectful relationships with others and a desire and a love of learning.
This year our teaching and learning goals are focused on improving student achievement in English and Numeracy, through the embedding of High Impact Teaching Practices and deepening the understanding of Religious Education and Catholic Identity. We have been supported with these initiatives through the CE Catalyst program and professional development and expert coaches. The Infants children have quickly settled into their daily learning routines of InitiaLit and in Years 3 to 6, the continuation of Spelling Mastery and Daily Review in Maths. This is supported with the implementation of Rocket Maths and a new literacy program in Years 3-6 which will assist with the enhancement of literacy skills. The children are busy writing their stories and preparing their artwork for the Braidwood Show which is on Saturday March 2.
Last week at the staff professional development day, we reviewed our behaviour management system, PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) and are implementing a house points system for positive behaviour. During the past week, the children have been concentrating on rules to support them with this. Presently, we are working on moving around the school in lines and in silence.
Today, we had our swimming carnival. It was wonderful to see the children arrive at school decked out in their house colours. We are very fortunate to have many of our parents volunteer to assist with marshalling and the barbeque. We thank Katie Tooth for all her organisation supported by the assistance of the staff.
Next Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday. All students will be given a pancake at morning tea with a choice of toppings. Donations of 50 cents per pancake for Caritas would be appreciated.
On Wednesday at 10:30am, we will have our K-6 opening school and Ash Wednesday liturgy at St Bede’s Church. The Year 6 leadership badges will be blessed during the ceremony and children will receive the ashes as this is the beginning of lent. Parents and grandparents are most welcome to attend the liturgy. There is limited seating as parishoners will also be in attendance.
On Wednesday February 21, we will be having our first Community Council meeting for this year. We are extremely grateful to our parents who have volunteered to represent St Bede’s community. This year our Community Council members are: Richard Bunn (Community Council Chair), Kate Ellis (Secretary), Katie Lyons (Treasurer), Sarah Paciorek (Parish Representative), Marylou Gorham (Principal), Amy Doszpot (Assistant Principal), Kristi Morrison (Fundraising), Sarah Hickey, Clare Young and Emily Krout-Ryan (Parent Representatives).
We are aware that some families are having issues accessing Compass. We are having a parent Compass workshop on Wednesday February 28 from 3:30pm-4:30pm. Campbell from the CE Compass team will be at St Bede's to conduct the workshop. Please bring a device with you.
Next Tuesday evening we hope to see you all at our annual Meet and Greet Barbeque at the Braidwood Servicemens Club from 5:30 to 7:30pm. We thank Amy Doszpot for her organisation and our Community Council members who have volunteered their time to assist with the Barbeque and clean up. A note has been sent home to all families. Parents, can you please return this note to school tomorrow, to assist with catering.
Have a great week
God Bless
Principal
Welcome to Term 1 2024! This year our whole school focus is ‘Live, Love, Learn’. It is inspired by our school mission and vision – ‘A school with heart. Live from the heart of Jesus, Love from the heart of Jesus and Learn from the heart of Jesus’. Last week, we began to unpack this as a staff and with our classes. We look forward to sharing this with you in the coming weeks.
A reading from Matthew 22:34-40 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
The Greatest Commandment:
When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Shrove Tuesday
Next Tuesday 13 February, we will be continuing our tradition at St Bede’s of selling pancakes at recess for Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes will be provided by the school and gluten free students will be catered for. There will be a choice of toppings including plain, butter, jam and honey. Each pancake will cost 50c with all proceeds being donated to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion - https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/
Ash Wednesday & Opening School Liturgy
We invite all families to attend our Ash Wednesday and Opening School Liturgy on Wednesday 14 February at 10:30am at the St Bede’s Church. We thank Father Tony and Father Josh for their support and preparation.
I look forward to the opportunity of being Acting Religious Education Coordinator (REC) this year in Mrs Bridget Bradley’s absence. We congratulate Bridget, Cameron and Charlie on the birth on Ashleigh Clare and wish them all the best.
Yours in faith,
Shaye Cooper

- Any children that are late to school, (after the morning bell) parents need to sign the children in at the office.
- Please keep an eye on our FaceBook page for the latest happenings around the school. St Bede's FaceBook page
- Unwell Students (Cough, runny nose, fever etc.) should be kept at home, to help prevent the spread of illness through the school.
- Please keep contact details up to date, if your address has changed email the office. Compass can be used to change email and phone details. If these details aren't kept up to date it makes it very difficult for staff to contact parents in an emergency.
- Asthma Action Plans - Parents are reminded to update their childs Asthma Action plan each year with the office.
Parents are reminded to ensure that all your child's clothing is labelled very clearly. We have found that using a fabric pen on the collar or underside of your child's hat works well.
It is very hard to return clothing items to family's if there is no name.
Parents please note: St Bede's is a Nut Free school and as such the sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged, as we have several students that have severe reactions. Therefore Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters or nut products are strongly discouraged.
Please note that if your child is away, that parents are able to lodge this absence through the Compass portal. This includes answering the absentee email from the school, there is no need to phone or email the school after doing the Compass notification.
If you are not set up for Compass please email the school office for login details. office.stbedesb@cg.catholic.edu.au
Len Mutton & Co are the supplier of all St Bede's uniforms.
We also have at St Bede's a 2nd hand Uniform Pool that is run by the Community Council and coordinated by a parent volunteer. It keeps a small supply of 2nd hand uniforms that are available for sale. Please note that as we rely on uniforms being donated that supply is limited and we do not have all sizes. If any families have uniforms that they are no longer using and would like to donate them, please drop these into the office.
If you would like to place an order for a 2nd hand uniform, please either email the office on office.stbedesb@cg.catholic.edu.au or call in and complete a request form.

At St Bede's canteen is run every 2nd Monday and the running of canteen is dependant on volunteers - we require at least 2 parent volunteers per canteen.
Please see the roster below - if you are able to help please contact Brenda, Trish or the office to have your name added.
If canteen is cancelled your child will need to bring their own lunch, as per a non canteen day.
If you have any questions about what is required to help on canteen please contact Brenda on 0438 275 032 or Trish on 0412 889507 or 02 48422027.
Please note that any parents volunteering for canteen must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). WWCC can be applied for through Service NSW (link) applying for a WWCC. Once you have received the clearance please send a copy of the email + your date of birth to the office as the clearances are checked.
