Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Thursday, we received the sad news that Cathy Ffrench had passed away. Cathy taught at St Bede’s School for 18 years and had prepared the children for their First Communion and Confirmation for several years since her retirement. Cathy was a much-loved member of staff and our school community. On Friday morning, staff and students gathered for a liturgy with Mr Fletcher (Cathy’s brother). We are extremely grateful to Amy Doszpot for organising the beautiful liturgy. We extend our condolences to Laurie and family as well as Bob, his wife Naida and their family and extended family.
The funeral for Cathy will be held this Monday at 12:30pm at St Bede’s Church. Year 5/6 students have been invited, to form a guard of honour for Cathy. Parents have been requested to provide a plate of slice for supper following the funeral. An email was sent to all families today with information about this. All offers of food would be appreciated. Food can either be dropped to the school or at the Club.
Last Thursday, Kinder to Year 3 went on an excursion to the Mogo Zoo. For all these students, this was their first excursion since they started Kinder at St Bede’s due to Covid. The children had a fantastic time and we are extremely grateful to Ms Cooper and Ms Crispin for their organisation, the Classroom Support Assistants and the following parents who attended and assisted on the day, Tim Thistleton, Sarah Hickey, Sarah Paciorek, Sarah Symington, Cristina Sanchez, Theresa Jingco, Talia Fa'oa (and her mum, Michelle Griggs), Kate Ellis, Shannon Ricketts (and her mum, Donna Sherriff) and Kate Morris. (Please refer to the Kinder account of the excursion further in the newsletter).
Tomorrow, is Grandparents and Special Friends Day. We look forward to seeing all our grandparents and special friends at St Bede’s at 12:30pm for a liturgy that has prepared by Katie Tooth and Year 2 and will be in held in the hall. This will be followed by shared BYO lunch and old fashioned games with the children. Children can leave with their grandparents and special friends before dismissal but they must be signed out at the front office.
Plans are well in place for the Walkathon which will be held on the last day of this term. Please get behind this great fundraiser and get your sponsors organised. We have fantasic prizes which our fundraising committee have organised. The more money the children raise, the more tickets they will have in the prize draw. At our last wakathon we raised over $7000. Can we beat this?
Parents, just a reminder, on Friday October 18, we will be having a disco for our students in the school hall commencing at 5pm-6pm for K-2 and 6:30-7:30pm for Years 3-6. There will be a barbecue provided for the children between 6pm and 6:30pm, glow sticks, drinks and ice blocks for a small cost. Simultaneously, we will be having a much-needed working bee in preparation for the opening of the new classrooms. We hope many of our parents can stay throughout the duration of the disco and give a couple of hours in the garden planting new plants at the front of the school. A barbecue dinner and refreshments will be provided for all volunteers. Information will be provided before the end of this term for both events.
Mrs Katie Tooth will be taking long service leave from this Monday until the commencement of week 3, term 4. Arrangements have been made for the class with Miss Alex Mathewson taking Year 2 until Tuesday October 22. We welcome Alex back to St Bede’s. Alex did relief work here earlier this year. In addition, Year 2 will be supported by me and may on occasion be split. I’m sure you will join with me, in wishing Katie all the best as she takes a much-needed break to spend the time with family and family.
Next week, until the commencement of term 4, I will be attending a Principals conference in New Zealand and taking long service leave. During my absence, the school will be in the very capable hands of Ms Amy Doszpot as Acting Principal and Ms Shaye Cooper, as Acting Assistant Principal. If you have and issues or concerns about your children, please direct them to Amy or Shaye who will be only too happy to assist you.
Have a wonderful last two weeks of term and I look forward to seeing all students and parents return on Tuesday, October 15.
God Bless
Marylou Gorham
Principal
Loving Jesus,
you welcomed children with open arms and blessed them.
We trust in you today as we remember our dear friend, Cathy.
We know she is now in your arms, filled with happiness and peace.
We ask that you send your angels and saints to guide her to a bright,
peaceful place,
where one day we will all be together again,
full of joy.
We ask this through you,
Jesus, our Lord.
Amen.
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of Mrs Cathy Ffrench. Mrs Ffrench was an ex-teacher at St Bede’s and an active member of our St Bede’s Parish Community. She was still volunteering to offer her time to support our students in their ongoing faith development through our sacramental programs. We are extremely grateful to Mrs Ffrench for her service as a classroom teacher, Religious Education Coordinator, relief teacher, parishioner, sacramental program leader and friend. She was also the beloved sister of Mr Fletcher. Please keep Mrs Ffrench and Mr Fletcher’s families in your prayers during this challenging time.
A Prayer for Cathy
Loving God,
we know that when people leave this world,
they are still safe with You in heaven.
Today,
we pray for Cathy,
trusting that she is now with You,
full of joy and peace.
Please stay close to us and help us feel Your love,
especially when we miss her.
Make our hearts strong in believing that
You will take care of her forever.
We ask this through Jesus,
our Lord.
Amen.
Sacramental Program
The Sacramental Program for Confirmation has been postponed until next term. More information will be communicated with families once a new date for Confirmation is set with the Priest and Archbishop.
Weekday Masses
Please note that there will be no weekday mass until further notice.
Grandparent’s Day
Tomorrow, Friday 13th September is Grandparent’s Day at St Bede’s. We invite all our grandparents and special friends to join us at a school for a day of fun! We will begin the day with a prayer liturgy in the Hall at 12:30pm, led by Year 2. We will then gather in the Courtyard for a shared lunch (BYO). A friendly reminder that St Bede’s is a nut free school. Following this, there will be a range of ‘old fashioned’ games for the young and young at heart – quoits, hopscotch, skipping and drawing. Our Kinder to Year 3 classrooms will be open for you to explore during this time. Ms Wise will have the Library open for the Book Fair – don’t forget to pop in and see what is on offer! Thank you to Ms Wise for her wonderful organisation of the Book Fair. We hope to see you there! The day will conclude with our Weekly Awards Ceremony at 2pm in the Hall.
Yours in faith,
Shaye Cooper
Religious Education Coordinator (Acting)
Our School Counsellor, Faith, will be visiting St Bede's on Wednesdays this year. Please see the below information regarding the service and how to make an appointment.
How to make an appointment.
If your child was seen by the school counsellor in previous years and you would like them to receive support in 2024, we require you to complete a new counselling registration form. The link can be found below. New referrals and requests can be made via the same link.
Parent consent for counselling continues to be required for all primary school students and will be sought and provided via email. Where parents are separated, we require the written consent of both parents. Once the referral has been received, I will contact parents on a Wednesday to further discuss the referral and determine whether school counselling can meet your child’s needs or if an external referral may be more appropriate.
Referrals can be submitted here https://mccg.my.site.com/housing/s/school-referral-form

St Bede's is a Nut Free school
This includes Nutella and unfortunately we have found sandwiches with Nutella, please beware that this is placing some of our students at great risk.
St Bede's is a nut free school - This mean that students should not bring anything containing nuts to school, this includes Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters as we have several students who are highly allergic to these items.
The sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged.
Please be aware that we have had a number of cases of COVID within the school community. If your child is showing symptoms please do a RATs before sending your child to school.
Unwell Students (Cough, runny nose, fever, vomiting etc.) If your child is unwell please keep them at home. If your child has vomited the night before, please keep them at home, even if you think they are okay. The NSW Health guidelines suggest that students who have vomited should be kept at home for 48 hours to help prevent the spread of illness through the school. Please see the guideline from NSW Health regarding vomiting. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Factsheets/viral-gastroenteritis.pdf

Mogo Zoo Excursion
Last Thursday, we went to Mogo Zoo. Kinder, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 all got to go. We went on the bus and we could sit next to any friend. At Mogo Zoo, there were lots of animals to see. We saw the gorillas. We saw meerkats and cheetahs. We saw lions and giraffes. We saw leopards. The baby gorilla was playing peek-a-boo with us. There were dingoes at the zoo. We saw hyenas and they were laughing. We saw white tigers and red pandas. There were so many different types of monkeys, like orange ones and ones with beards. There were even rhinos to see. We held a lizard and it felt spiky and bumpy like a pinecone. We had a great day!

To promote a healthy and active lifestyle, our fundraising efforts for Term 3 include a 5k walk around Braidwood Recreation Ground. Students are asked to raise money in the form of ‘pledges’ for the total walk. Whole School incentives are being offered as students work towards our total fundraising target of $5,000. The first class to raise $500 receives a Zooper Dooper for each student! The first class to raise $1,000 receives hot popcorn at lunch! (Is this ok?)
As an individual incentive, for every $5.00 raised, students will receive a ticket in our major raffle draw of prizes to be held on Friday 18th October 2024.
We are excited to announce APEX will dollar match every donation up to a total of $2,500 raised! Students will receive double the raffle tickets for their funds raised when dollar matched by APEX. Thank you, APEX!
Braidwood Lions Club have sponsored a BBQ lunch, juice popper and fruit to enjoy at the Walk-a-thon! Thank you, Braidwood Lions!
Every child who walks earns an additional raffle ticket in the prize draw. There will be a major prize for the child who raises the most money, followed by many prizes in the major prize draw.
Prizes have been generously donated by Questacon, Braidwood Bakery, Flip Out, Anaconda, Leading Lights, Trek Bicycle Store, Intersport Fyshwick and the Community Council. Thank you to our supporters!
All money raised goes towards our new much needed Infants playground.
