Parents and Carers under the existing COVID rules if you need to enter the school for any reason please phone the office, 48422413 before entering the grounds.
Dear Parents and Carers,
This Sunday at a special mass, our Year 3 and 4 students will make their First Communion. We are extremely grateful to Brother Brian, Lisa Kaptein, Johanna Barling, Gerard Galvin and Victoria McGrath for preparing the children and to Lisa for her organisation in the lead up to Sunday. We are extremely grateful to Fr Mick for celebrating mass this Sunday and for our parents and parishioners for cleaning the church. Once again, a wonderful example of the amazing community we have at St Bede’s.
On Tuesday, we conducted a very successful Kinder Orientation. The children had a great day! A special thank you to Shaye Cooper, Lois White, Jennie Marsh, Ann Monkhouse, Sarah Stewart, Michelle Ridley and Year 5 buddies for their organisation and assistance on Tuesday. This Tuesday, November 23 is our final Orientation day. We look forward to seeing all the preschoolers at St Bede’s from 9am to 12pm.
Congratulations to Frankie Doherty in Year 6, who was announced this week as a Bronze Award winner in WriteOn 2021 – the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) annual writing competition for students in Years 1 to 6. Her writing will be published in The Best of WriteOn 2021 and this anthology will soon be available for purchase online from the NESA Shop. Such talent we have here at St Bede’s!
This past week, we have had quite a few children who have been sent home with flu like symptoms. Parents please do not send your child/children to school if they are unwell as they will be sent home. If your child has flu like symptoms, they will be required to have a Covid test before they can return to school. The result of the test must be forwarded to the front office for record keeping.
The Father's Day raffle was drawn this week. Thank you so much to the businesses and families listed below for donating the prizes and to all our families and staff who purchased and/or sold tickets. We managed to raise $1050 which will go towards some new interactive boards.
The winners of the raffle were:
- First prize: A trailer load of wood donated by the Tooth family: Jim Fowler.
- Second prize: Palerang Landscapes Garden Mulch: Daisy Septhon.
- Third and Fourth prizes: 18 holes of golf and a cold beverage at the Serviceman’s Club: Cooper Backhouse and the Ridley family.
- Fifth prize: Men’s haircut at Beck’s Hair & Beauty: Luke Clarke
- Sixth prize: The Boiled Lolly hamper: Grit Fair
- Seventh prize: Giant Toblerone donated by Year 6: Stella Vardanega
Presently teachers are noticing that the children are tired and at times emotional. Parents, please ensure that your child/children are in bed at their regular time during the week to enable the children to fully function the next day at school and to get through the school week.
If any students from Kinder to Year 5 are not going to be attending St Bede's in 2022, can you please contact me by December 3. It is a requirement if you are leaving, that we are notified of the school where the children will be attending in 2022.
Thank you so much to all our parents who have endeavoured to follow all the Level 3+ restrictions. Please ensure you contact the office if you need to come into the school, sign in at the front office and wear a mask.
Please keep our Braidwood community in your prayers and continue to be thankful for the small everyday blessings around us.
God Bless

Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.
Thank you for their innocence and goodness.
May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.
Amen
Sacrament of First Eucharist

Swim Safety lessons begin Week 9
Our Water Awareness/Swim Safety lessons will be held at the Braidwood Pool commencing Monday 29th November and running until Friday 3rd December (Week 9).
Please return the permission note and QPRC Assessment Level note to school as soon as possible.
Lessons will go ahead regardless of the weather (except in the case of thunderstorms) so please ensure your child/ren bring their swimming gear to school every day.
Please also ensure that all clothing and swimming items are clearly labelled. Students will change at school in readiness for their lesson, and back into their school uniform upon return to school. A pair of sandals or thongs would be useful to walk to/from the pool instead of their school shoes which are difficult to put on with wet feet!
Downtown Gumtree Lane
It was Downtown Gumtree Lane
Where I went to escape the pain
It’s where I went to get away from the fighting
Feeling as though my childhood was igniting.
I had no place to feel safe and protected
I was at home being disrespected and neglected
Mum and Dad never saw eye to eye
They’d start to yell and I’d start to cry.
Then one dry and dusty day
I took my bike and rode down a very steep brae
Then the street lights began to glow
And I found myself at the end of a road I didn’t know
All the gumtrees began to sway as it started to blow.
Then I saw it, my new special place.
It was an old run down house, no one was there
I went inside and it was just so bare.
But I had a feeling and a strong one at that
That this was the place were I could sit and relax
No worries, no fears, nothing to scare me
When I come here, I can be happy and free.
It needed a name and I knew just the one
It was Downton Gumtree Lane
It suited so well with the peeling paint and broken window panes
I looked out the window and saw dirt as dry as stale bread
And at the trees that were well and truly dead.
I got my bike and began to ride home
Back to a place that felt unlike my own
But now I have somewhere to go
When my parents decided to put on a show.
It was Downtown Gumtree Lane
Were I went to escape the pain.
