Dear Parents and Carers,
This Tuesday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. The children enjoyed eating pancakes and choosing their favourite topping. A special thank you to all our staff for making the pancakes. The children gave a gold coin donation towards Project Compassion which helps raise money through Caritas for children living in poverty in our world.

This Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Each class conducted a liturgy whereby the children all received ashes. A special thank you to Fr Mick for blessing the ashes and Helen Mulholland for her assistance organising the liturgies. Unfortunately, we are unable to attend mass at St Bede’s Church due to Covid restrictions.
Last Thursday our Year 5 and 6 students attended the launch of Braidwood Lions Young Writers Festival at Ryrie Park. Our children were wonderful representatives for St Bede’s. A special congratulations to Sally and Prisha on their outstanding speeches about what the festival means to them.
Interim Reports will be sent home with each child tomorrow, March 4. The Interim report provides parents with information about how their child has settled into school routines and learning, and how they interact with peers and teachers. Next Wednesday March 9, from 3:30 to 5:50pm, teachers will be conducting Parent Meet and Greet meetings via Teams. Teachers will share a google doc with each parent to allow them to choose a time and admit each family at their chosen times. Each interview is only for 5 minutes to meet and touch base and if there is time, discuss any concerns raised in the Interim Reports. If there are more issues that need to be discussed, parents are requested to make another time to speak to the teacher. Unfortunately, Covid has prevented teachers from having meetings with parents at school.
Last year, our canteen was a huge success. Each Friday our parents volunteered a few hours of their time to organise lunches. We are hoping to have our Canteen up and running again very soon! We plan to have our first lunch day on Friday March 18. To enable this to happen, we rely on our parents to volunteer but you must have a Working with Children Check. If you would like to assist, please contact Bec Thistleton on 0438211071. If we get plenty of volunteers, we will be able to have canteen each Friday!
We would like each class to have a Class Representative. The Class Representative could organise a social event e.g., weekend activity at the park or a get together once a term. We need a Class Representative for Years 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. If you would like to volunteer for this job, please contact or email the front office.
Good luck to all our students competing in the Archdiocesan Swimming Carnival on Tuesday at Queanbeyan. We wish our swimmers the best of luck and we are certain they will represent our school with pride and excellent sportsmanship.
Parents who need to change arrangements for departure from school need to contact the front office before 2:30pm. If the phone is busy, you may not get your message through to your child. Currently, we have quite a few parents who are calling after this time.
God Bless

LET US PRAY EACH DAY OF LENT FOR THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE.
WE ALSO PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING DUE TO THE FLOODING IN AUSTRALIA.
This week is a special time in the life of our church. We celebrated Shrove Tuesday by sharing pancakes which the children loved and so did some adults. On Ash Wednesday we distributed ashes in the sign of the cross on everyone's foreheads. It was such a privilege for me to be able to give the ashes to the children and adults in our community. These celebrations start the time of Lent leading up to Easter. Lent lasts for 40 days and is a time of fasting, almsgiving and prayer. The following is an explanation.
Wednesday marked the beginning of the Church's season of Lent. The marking of the ashes on our foreheads on this day is a public expression of our faith and humility. It is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through prayer we come closer to God so that we are better able to realise the promises made for us at our baptism, to live justly as Jesus teaches us. Fasting joins us in solidarity with people experiencing poverty who often have no choice but to go without basic human needs. Sharing what we have, or "almsgiving is a sign of our commitment to justice and our thanks for all that God has given us. Lent comes from Lencten which means 'spring'.
May our Lent this year bring everyone peace as we offer our prayers to those in our global community in need.

Northern Region Swimming
Congratulations to the 24 students who travelled to Yass last Thursday for the NR Swimming carnival. The children swam brilliantly and displayed great sportsmanship and team spirit on the day. Thank you to our ever-supportive group of parents and grandparents who assisted on the day with timekeeping, organising and supervising. We have 12 students who have qualified to represent the Northern Region at the Archdiocesan championships next Tuesday 8th March in Queanbeyan – our biggest ever number! Congratulations and good luck to Eden, Teddy, Betty, Nina, Mack, Jolyon, Hamish, Lewis, Angus, Evie, Elsa and Ivy.
