Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Friday we held a very successful working bee at St Bede’s. We are extremely grateful to Mark Chifley, Assistant Principal and Richard Bunn for their organisation, coordination and delegation of jobs and the families who turned up on the day to assist. The school grounds and gardens look immaculate, the tree branches at eye level have all been lopped, and the sand pit and tan bark in the play equipment have all been topped up. A special thank you to the Vardanega’s for donating the mini skips.

Tomorrow our students will be participating in the Cross Country at the recreation ground. The students are very excited about this and are looking forward to wearing their house colours and participating. A special thank you to Katie Tooth for the many hours of preparation and organisation and our parents who have volunteered to assist on the day. Please ensure the children rug up as it is going to be very cold. Parents please note, unless you have volunteered you are unable to attend due to Covid restrictions.
We would like each class to have a Class Representative. The Class Representative could organise a social event e.g., weekend activity at the park or a get together once a term. We need Class Representatives for Years 1,3,4,5 and 6. If you would like to volunteer for this job, please contact or email the front office.
Next week, our students will be participating in several events as we lead up to Easter and end of term. A special Holy Week liturgy will occur on Thursday which involves all the students. We look forward for the opportunity to reflect on the events of Holy Week. A special thank you to Helen Mulholland for her wonderful organisation of the liturgy.
On Friday, next week, all students from Kinder to Year 6 will be participating in the Easter hat parade and street parade. A note will be sent home with all students about this, today. Following this, all students will be participating in a tabloid sports rotation for House Spirt day. Children are requested to wear sports uniform and to wear house colours.
We were hoping to have our welcome barbecue next week. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we have been advised by CE not to hold this event. We are hopeful that next term, we will be permitted to host a Mother’s Day breakfast and other events at school.
Next term, all students will be participating in a Walkathon on Friday May 27 at the recreation ground as a school fundraiser. Information and sponsor sheets will be sent home with all students on Monday. This will enable students to seek sponsors during the holiday break.
Term one concludes next Friday, April 8. This term has been a very productive and successful term for all our students and staff. It has been wonderful to be at school and we have seen the children make many leaps with their learning. Just a reminder that Term 2 commences on Wednesday April 27, for all students Kinder to Year 6.
Monday April 25 is ANZAC day and Tuesday April 26 is a pupil free day. More information about the ANZAC day March will be provided next week in the newsletter.
Good luck to the students participating in the Rotary Public Speaking Competition at Bungendore next Tuesday evening. We wish them all the very best and we look forward to attending to hear their amazing speeches.
God Bless
Principal
Next week, on Thursday at 9.15 we will be enacting the Easter story. As a whole school we will move from the joyous celebration of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on his donkey as the people line the streets to welcome him. Kindergarten will present this. Following this will be Year 1, with Jesus washing the disciples' feet. Year 4 will present the Last Supper and then we move to the playground as Year 2 act out Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. After this Year 3 will show us Jesus being trialled and sentenced to death on the cross. Year 5 will walk us through the stations of the cross and finally Year 6 students will share with us the crucifixion. Please send your child on the day in a costume that will go over their school uniform. The costume will be some form of clothing, like they wore at the time of Jesus.
Please keep this costume simple. It might be a tea towel on their head.
Unfortunately parents are unable to attend due to Covid rules but we will put photos on facebook.
Our School Counsellor, Madi is available each Thursday, during the school term, at the school. If you think your child would benefit from seeing Madi please complete the online referral form at https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form.
Any concerns or questions can be emailed to Madi Madelyn.burns@catholiccare.cg.org.au and you will hear back on Thursdays. Or alternatively contact the school office for your concerns to be passed on.
Vegetable Week & The Big Vegie Crunch recipes
All classes participated in the Big Veggie Crunch today, photos following next week.
Here is a suggestion from their website on how to incorporate veggies into recipes.
Need some ideas for the lunch box?
- carrot, celery, cucumber – cut into sticks or left whole
- capsicum – cut into sticks or wedges
- corn – raw baby corn spears or a cooked corn cob
- broccoli or cauliflower florets - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
- tomatoes – small cherry tomatoes or a large tomato that can be eaten like an apple
- beans or snow peas - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
- mushrooms – sliced or left whole
- if fresh veg isn’t possible, try canned or frozen vegetables instead
Remember to keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes. Check out the UP THE VEG at Home resource for ideas.
Tomorrow is Cross Country!
Term 2 Commences Wednesday 27 April for students
Bus information
If your child is catching a bus, other than their registered and approved Department of Transport bus run, for any reason, such as going to a friend’s place or a regular after school activity, parents must notify the school of the change, before 2:30pm, for every day that the change happens. The bus company also charges a fee of $3.00.
The school will then complete a white slip (change to departure slip) for your child. Your child will need to hand the white slip + $3:00 for the fare to the bus driver. If we are not notified or parents don't provide the $3:00, your child will be unable to take the bus.
