Dear Parents and Carers,
Today the staff and students participated in a very moving reflection of the events of Holy week. Everyone came suitably attired in clothing which encapsulated this period in time. The children embraced their roles with reverence with each class portraying part of the Holy Week events. A special thank you to Helen Mulholland REC for her organisation of the liturgy.

Last Friday, we had our Cross Country Carnival at the Braidwood Recreation Ground. Despite the weather and Katie Tooth being away, we went ahead with the carnival. Congratulations to Mark Chifley who stepped in and took over the organisation of the carnival at the last minute. It ran very smoothly and he was ably assisted by all our staff. A special thank you to Katie Tooth for all her work in the lead up to the carnival, and to our parents who volunteered to assist on the day-walking with the children, on check points, at the recording table and setting up and packing up. We could not have run the carnival without your help.

On Friday, all students from Kinder to Year 6 will be participating in the Easter hat parade and street parade. Following this, all students will be participating in activities organised by Year 6 students. We have had to cancel House Spirt day due to the weather, until next term. Children are requested to wear their sports uniform tomorrow.
Following the Easter hat parade, Mark Chifley, Assistant Principal will be cooking a barbecue lunch for students and staff. Students do not need to bring their lunch to school and gluten free diets will be catered for. This is to celebrate the end of term and is a thank you from the staff for all our beautiful students and in recognition of our inability to have the usual welcome barbecue at the commencement of the year. Next term, we are hoping that Covid restrictions will change but at this stage we have been informed by Catholic Education that the current arrangements will remain in place for the first few weeks.
On Tuesday night, several students participated in the Rotary Public Speaking competition at Bungendore. Congratulations to our speakers - Josie, Sophia, Elsa, Ivy, Emma and Sally and to our students who won the Encouragement Award for their sections- Josie (Years 3 to 5) and Sally (Year 6). The quality of speeches presented was very impressive! A special thank you to our parents for driving the children and for their support.
Next term, all students will be participating in a Walkathon. Information and sponsor sheets were sent home with all students this week. This will enable students to seek sponsors during the holiday break. We encourage all our families to get behind this great fundraiser and support our students.
Term one concludes tomorrow, April 8. Monday April 25 is ANZAC day and as is tradition, our students from Kinder to Year 6 are invited to participate in the March. Students who wish to participate in the ANZAC March are requested to meet the teachers and assemble outside St Bede’s Church at 9:50am and to wear their full winter uniform. Should you require winter uniform, Muttons have ample supplies available for you to purchase. Students, will be required to be in winter uniform by week 3, up until then they have the option to wear summer uniform if they wish.
We wish you all a happy and holy Easter and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Wednesday, April 27.
God Bless and keep safe
Principal
We experienced a lovely and moving Easter story today. Each class creatively shared their part of the story. Our venue moved from the playground to the hall which allowed us to sing and move to the songs on video. All classes were very reverent but I must acknowledge the participation of Year 6 in their role in the story. They acted, moved and sang as they presented the crucifixion. We were in awe of them as they lead our school. Thank you to all the children and teachers for their participation today.
Our St. Bede’s school community wishes you a holy Easter and time with your family this holiday period.
Helen Mulholland

Unexplained Student Absences
Emails for unexplained student absences were sent yesterday afternoon. If you received one of these emails you are able to use the Compass Parental Portal to provide an explanation.
If you use the Compass Portal to explain a child's absence there is no need to contact the office.
All students are invited to march, with the school, in the ANZAC day parade. Students should be in winter uniform and assembly in front of the church at 9:50 am.
Term 2 Commences Wednesday 27 April for students
Bus information
If your child is catching a bus, other than their registered and approved Department of Transport bus run, for any reason, such as going to a friend’s place or a regular after school activity, parents must notify the school of the change, before 2:30pm, for every day that the change happens. The bus company also charges a fee of $3.00.
The school will then complete a white slip (change to departure slip) for your child. Your child will need to hand the white slip + $3:00 for the fare to the bus driver. If we are not notified or parents don't provide the $3:00, your child will be unable to take the bus.
The Compass Parent Portal is a secure online portal that lets parents access information about their child.
The Portal is accessible via the web and the Compass School manager App (via the the App store on your device)

The Big Vegie Crunch recipes
Here is another suggestion from the Healthy Kids website on how to incorporate veggies into recipes.
Need some ideas for the lunch box?
- carrot, celery, cucumber – cut into sticks or left whole
- capsicum – cut into sticks or wedges
- corn – raw baby corn spears or a cooked corn cob
- broccoli or cauliflower florets - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
- tomatoes – small cherry tomatoes or a large tomato that can be eaten like an apple
- beans or snow peas - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
- mushrooms – sliced or left whole
- if fresh veg isn’t possible, try canned or frozen vegetables instead
Remember to keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes. Check out the UP THE VEG at Home resource for ideas.
We have been advised by Len Mutton & Co, our uniform supplier, that they have recieved new stock of the woollen School jumpers.
They currently have all sizes available.
