Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to all students, staff and families. It was wonderful to see so many of our students and staff represent St Bede’s at the ANZAC ceremonies at Braidwood and Majors Creek. Our students marched with pride and participated very reverently throughout the service. Congratulations to Ivy and Sienna who read beautifully during the service and a special thank you to Trish for making the beautiful wreath for our school. On Friday we will be gathering in the hall for prayer assembly at 8:55am. Helen Mulholland (REC) and Year 4 will be preparing an ANZAC reflection. Parents are now able to attend assemblies and are welcome to attend.

Yesterday, each family was provided with an updated plan for COVID smart measures for term 2. These are in place to minimise transmission of COVID-19 onsite. Please ensure you familiarise yourselves with the plan.
There will be two additional pupil free days at St Bede’s this term. These additional days have been provided to all CE schools in recognition of the inability for schools to obtain relief to release teachers from class for their preparation time and in recognition of the extra duties placed upon leadership teams in school to manage this. A detailed letter is attached with the newsletter today to explain the purpose of the days. Our dates are Monday May 23 and Friday June 10 which are the same dates as Trinity Goulburn which will assist families to organise supervision with students in both schools.
This term, all students will be participating in a Walkathon on Friday May 27. We hope all students have been busy seeking sponsors throughout the holidays. In the coming weeks we will provide more information about the great prizes that the Community Council are organising and we will be requesting parents to assist on the day. So please put the date in your diary. We encourage all our families to get behind this great fundraiser and support our students.
Catholic Schools month commences next week. Each year during May we celebrate the wonderful work that is being done in our school and all CE schools commence the enrolment period for 2023. Open day tours will be conducted on Monday May 16 from 9:30am to 11am. If you have a child or know someone who is turning 5 before July 31 2023, please fill out the application for enrolment form which is available on our school website. Interviews will be conducted later in term 2 and in the following terms.
Just a reminder to all parents regarding their obligations regarding attendance at school. Last term we had a high rate of absence as Covid impacted families but at times students were away and teachers were not provided with an explanation for the absence.
Under NSW law, students must attend the school they are enrolled in for the times required by that school, unless the student’s absence is approved by the Principal or their delegate. Parents/carers must ensure that enrolled students attend every day of school, and every activity or event the school requires the student to attend, during the required times. This is known as the ‘full-time participation’ requirement.
Parents/carers must provide an explanation to the school for any absence, ideally on or before the day of absence, and no more than five school days after the absence occurs. Parents/carers may be liable under the NSW Education Acts if students fail to attend school without a reasonable excuse.
Next Friday, May 6 we will be hosting our Mother’s Day breakfast at school for our mum’s and grandma’s. The children will be sending invitations home early next week with more details. We will have our usual Mother’s Day stall at St Bede’s. All students are requested to bring $5 which will enable them to purchase a gift for mum.
God Bless and keep safe

The Big Vegie Crunch recipes
Here is another suggestion from the Healthy Kids website on how to incorporate veggies into recipes.
Need some ideas for the lunch box?
- carrot, celery, cucumber – cut into sticks or left whole
- capsicum – cut into sticks or wedges
- corn – raw baby corn spears or a cooked corn cob
- broccoli or cauliflower florets - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
- tomatoes – small cherry tomatoes or a large tomato that can be eaten like an apple
- beans or snow peas - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
- mushrooms – sliced or left whole
- if fresh veg isn’t possible, try canned or frozen vegetables instead
Remember to keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes. Check out the UP THE VEG at Home resource for ideas.
