Dear Parents and Carers
On Tuesday we celebrated St Bede’s day. To commence the day, Fr Mick celebrated a special mass. During mass he mentioned what a great scholar St Bede was. Our students at St Bede’s aspire to be just like St Bede. To acknowledge this, we had several students receive the “St Bede’s Award”at the conclusion of mass.
The award winners were: Kitty, Lucy, Marlin, Edith, Prisha, Miranda and Grace.

Congratulations to all our award recipients who model a positive work ethic and aspire to be constantly challenged with their learning, just like St Bede. Afterwards the students all purchased books from the Year 6 Book Fair and participated in tabloid sports. A special thank you to Fr Mick for engaging our students in the liturgy and Miss Kaptein for her organisation. All the children are to be congratulated on their reverent participation throughout the mass.
Next Wednesday, June 2 is school photo day. Parents we urge you to ensure that your child/children are in the correct school winter uniform. On cold mornings we encourage children to wear a jacket, which should be navy. At present, we are seeing a range of various coloured jackets creeping in. The only jewellery that children are permitted to wear are studs or sleepers in ears, a watch and a medic-alert should they require it. Long hair should be tied back with either a navy or maroon ribbon and there should be no nail polish. ‘Muttons’ stock our uniform and they have ties available for purchase and shirts and long pants arriving very soon. We congratulate our students who always attend school in the correct uniform.
This month we have been celebrating Catholic Schools across the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn. St Bede’s have commenced the process of accepting online enrolments for 2022. Today we conducted our Open Day tours. If you are wanting a tour of the school, please contact the front office to organise a suitable time. A child must turn 5 years of age by 31 July of the year of enrolment. Many enrolment interviews have already been conducted. If you have a child attending St Bede’s next year and you have not yet lodged your application, please do so by clicking on the link below. We look forward to our preschoolers attending the Orientation days early in Term 4.
Last Friday we had our annual athletics carnival. We are extremely grateful to Mrs Katie Tooth for her wonderful organisation and the parents and staff who assisted. We were blessed with beautiful weather and the children had lots of fun competing and trying hard in their events.
We are currently inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process. The survey must be completed by Friday June 4. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the following URL:
Last year the Canteen ceased operating due to COVID19. We would love to see the Canteen functioning again at St Bede’s. For this to occur, we need a Canteen Manager/Manageress. This person would do the ordering and purchasing of food as well as plan the Menus. It would involve a few hours each Friday, assisted by parent volunteers. Once we have found a manager, we will send a note home seeking volunteers. If you think you could spare a few hours each Friday to run the canteen, please contact the front office or Beck Thistleton.
Next Wednesday evening we have our Community Council meeting at 5:30pm. Current topics for discussion are playground improvements, canteen and fundraising. If you have any suggestions or ideas that you wish to raise, please contact our Council Chair Amanda Vardanega or a member of the Community Council.
We are extremely grateful to our parents who have volunteered to be class representatives. This is a great opportunity to get to know other families at our school. We are still seeking a Class Representative for Year 4. If you think you could do this job, please contact the front office.
God Bless
Marylou Gorham
Prayer
Benediction
May our footsteps, on these ancient lands,
remind us of creation and connectedness, in our search for truth.
May the Gum Tree, from its roots to its branches,
remind us to dig deep and reach high, in our action for justice.
May the Eagle, who soars in the sky,
remind us of the power, in our call for love.
May the expanse of the lands and seas, of the sky and stars,
remind us of God’s timing in our faith in hope.
May the Holy three, Creator Spirit, Lord God, Papa Jesus,
remind us of community.
So with grace, mercy, and peace, go in truth, justice, love and hope.

Feast Day of Saint Bede
On Tuesday we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Bede. Saint Bede lived most of his life in a Christian monastery (from the age of 7) and became a Benedictine monk. He is known as the Father of English History for his writing on theology and history, however he studied many disciplines including nature, astronomy, and poetry.
Saint Bede dedicated his life to faith and learning. This passion for learning and thirst for knowledge makes him a good role model for us all, as we to aspire to be lifelong learners.
Thank you to Father Mick and Brother Brian for helping us celebrate.
A special thank you to Year 6 for their excellent leadership during our tabloid sport rotations.
Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics carnival was held last Friday at the Rec. Ground in glorious sunshine. A lot of fun was had by all our students who gave their best and competed with their friends in great spirit. The best dressed teddy competition was fiercely contested with our biggest ever number of entries. Congratulations to Emma (Year 5) who took out the coveted first place and earned some points for her house. This was followed by some very enthusiastic war cries and of course the siblings and toddlers race. Well done to our future students!
As always, we couldn’t have held our carnival without the support of our amazing parents and grandparents who started, timed, recorded, measured, organised and cheered on our athletes. Thank you for giving your time and effort to ensure the carnival was a success. Our final two events (long jump and high jump) will be held at school on Friday, after which notes will be sent home for those students who have gained selection in our school team to compete at the Northern Region carnival in Goulburn on Friday 11th June.
Archdiocesan Cross Country Carnival
On Tuesday 8 students travelled to Stromlo Forest Park in Canberra to represent the Northern Region at the Archdiocesan Cross Country carnival. Well done to Clare, Isla, Archer, Pippa, Daisy, Evie, Sonny and Mack who ran with great determination for some outstanding results. Pippa (2nd), Archer (5th) and Isla (6th) will now move on to represent the Archdiocese at the MacKillop Championships in Sydney. Congratulations, we wish you the best of luck!
Brumbies Rugby Clinics
Beginning today, rugby skills clinics will be held for all K-6 students thanks to the Sporting Schools program. Students will participate in a 40 minute session each Thursday (Weeks 6-10) with a trained Brumbies development officer who will work on fun games and ball skills. Students are asked to wear their full sports uniform on Thursdays for the remainder of the term in addition to their regular sports uniform days.

Thank you to everyone who brought in books for our Book Fair.
We had so many amazing books and we were once again overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, we raised over $225.
It was great to see the passion for reading alive in our school community.
Enrolment Reminder
St Bede's are currently enroling students for 2022. If you have a child that is school age and is able to start Kinder next year please complete an online application.
Week 6 Term 2
This week saw the school embracing the Year 6 class and Miss Kaptein in their first ‘Book Sale’. I was extremely lucky to purchase up to 15 books to read to my future grandchild.
This week’s Author of the Week is Andy Griffiths. His books are extremely entertaining and perfect for the reluctant reader. I was first introduced to these books when my boys were in Primary School. I have been a fan of his ever since. My favourites include:-
Just Tricking, Just Annoying and Just Stupid. These books provide real ‘Laugh Out Loud’ moments, the one where Andy pretends to be dead so that he doesn’t have to go to school is one of my favourites. Andy Griffiths has also written The Treehouse series of books.
