- The Council of Catholic Schools Parents (CCSP)
Dear Parents and Carers,
May is often referred to as the Month of Mary – a month where Catholics across the world pay special devotions to our Blessed Mother Mary. As we all have in our own lives, in times of trouble we seek support, guidance and sometimes receive unasked for but needed tough love from our mothers. So it is as Catholics we pray to Mary and ask her to intercede on our behalf.
Next week on Thursday the school will host a Mothers Day Breakfast to recognise and give thanks to the mums, grandmothers and special women in our lives. The breakfast will start at 8.15 am and there will be a selection of pastries and slices as well as a tea and coffee. Students will also be able to purchase a small $5 gift. Details will be in a note home this week.
As part of St. Bede’s increasing sustainability by reducing paper usage in the school we are moving towards sending as much correspondence home using Compass and or Schoolzine, as part of this we will be sending home an invitation to the upcoming Mothers Day Breakfast via Compass as a trial. Paper notes will also be issued to ensure that information is shared.
On Monday this week Jordan who is an Instructional Lead from Shaping Minds Australia. Jordan is helping to continue to implement High Impact Teaching Practices (HITP) as part of the Catholic Education’s Catalyst Program. Jordan observed teachers presenting HITP in classes. As part of the staff meeting he also presented to staff and demonstrated how to differentiate during daily review. He was impressed by the school's implementation and progress. All of which will strengthen teaching and improve student learning.
St Bedes Open Day tours for 2024 enrolements, will take place on Tuesday 16th of May with student lead tours available from 9:30 - 11:00. We are of course happy to provide tours outside these times. Please contact the front office for details or email office.stbedesb@cg.catholic.edu.au Any familes wanting to enrol a student in 2024 please use the following link for the online enrolement https://www.stbedesb.nsw.edu.au/enrolment
The building program continues with the demolition of the old Year 2 and 3 classrooms and sports shed. The sports shed will be replaced with a new sports shed that opens onto the oval.

Planning for the Year 5 and 6 Camp 2024 is well under way. The camp will be held from Monday 26th February till Friday 1st March 2024 in Sydney.
As always if you have any concerns please feel free to contact the school and have a conversation with staff.
Finally we give thanks to St Jude - The patron saint of loss causes for the stunning victory and season changing win of the West Tigers last weekend.
Kind regards
Mark ChifleyDear Parents,
We welcome Father Mick back this weekend. He has been in East Timor at Timor-Leste.
We are starting our preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation for Year 2 children. Year 2 parents will receive more information in the coming week.
In our church we are moving to our celebration of Pentecost which is the time we remember the Holy Spirit coming to the Apostles to give them strength to continue on Jesus’ work.
Our classes will continue to take turns to attend the parish Mass on Tuesdays. We will celebrate Mass together as a whole school community to celebrate St Bede’s Day which is officially on 25th May.
All are welcome to come to our parish mother’s day breakfast this Saturday in the CWA hall. Please pay $10 to James at the coffee window in the main street. Come along and share food and company.
Our School Counsellor, Sharman is currently on leave. We will have Mari with covering this leave for the coming weeks. Mari will be visiting St Bede's on Fridays, except for this Friday May 5. If you think your child would benefit from seeing Mari please complete the online referral form at https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form.
Archdiocesan Rugby Union Trials
The Archdiocesan Rugby Union trials will be held on Monday 15th May in Canberra. Students who are interested in trialling for the team are asked to contact Mrs Tooth at school for further details.
FROM THE LIBRARY
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you can see our renovations are “full steam ahead”. Sadly this means our “Pop Up Library” has nowhere to be safety situated and our lunchtime library sessions will be on hold for now. If your child has “St Bede’s Library” books to return these can be placed in the bookslot in the present Year 3 room (the library).
Our town library visits will return soon and I’m hopeful that each class will be able to visit twice this term. Please watch this space for class dates.
Yours in reading
Ann Monkhouse
All women are welcome to come along to a Mother’s Day Breakfast on Saturday May 6th. The breakfast will be held in the CWA rooms, starting at 8 am until 9:30 am, the charge for the breakfast is $10 payable at James.
Let’s get together to enjoy each other’s company and conclude with prayers of thanks and celebration for the mothering roles in our lives.
Parents please note that St Bede's is a Nut Free school and as such the sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged, as we have several students that have severe reactions. Therefore Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters are strongly discouraged.
The Compass Parent Portal is a secure online portal that lets parents access information about their child.
The Portal is accessible via the web and the Compass School manager App (via the the App store on your device)
What You Can Do?

- Communicate directly with teachers (desktop only)
- Access your child's reports
- View and maintain attendance records

For canteen to run at St Bede's we need at least two parent helpers for each week on the roster. If we do not have two volunteers then we are unable to have canteen and it will be cancelled for that week. Please refer to the below roster.
If canteen is cancelled then your child will need to bring their own lunch, as per a non canteen day. Please note that if canteen is cancelled and your child has an order, parents/carers will be contacted to provide lunch.
Any parents that are interested in helping in canteen and have a couple of hours available on a Monday morning (Please see the roster for coming dates) please email the office.
If you have any questions about what is required to help on canteen please contact Brenda on 0438 275 032 or Trish on 0412 889507 or 02 48422027.
Please note that any parents volunteering for canteen must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). WWCC can be applied for through Service NSW (link) applying for a WWCC. Once you have recieved the clearance please send a copy of the email + your date of birth to the office as the clearances are checked.

- St Bede's 2024 enrolment period will start in Term 2 and runs until the end of May. If you know of any families that maybe considering St Bede's for their 2024 Kinder age children, please let them know. This includes any existing families with siblings.
- If you have changed contact details, phone number or email address, these can be changed through the parent Compass Portal. If you change residential address please contact the school via email on office.stbedesb@cg.catholic.edu.au to notify us of the change. If these details aren't kept up to date it makes it very difficult for staff to contact parents in an emergency.
- If your child is late to school (after 9:10am) parents need to attend the office and sign their child in, otherwise the late arrival becomes a unexplained absence.
- Any change to your child's normal departure arrangements needs to be notified to the office by either email (preferred) or phone before 2:30 pm. After this time it becomes increasing difficult to ensure that your child receives notification. If there is any doubt as to how a child is getting home your child will be kept at school and a parent will be called to collect.
